Tuesday group
Thursday group
Nordic walking is a fitness activity, using special poles that help exercise both upper and lower body. It has been running successfully for many years. It is important to note that, to join this group regularly you will need to attend a training course in the techniques required.
Since this is an outdoor activity, it has been deemed safe to commence, with safety precautions in place. There are two main issues: keeping members safe and complying with government and Third Age Trust advice on Covid-19 so insurance is valid. However, the final decision on participation in an activity rests with the individual members as only they know their circumstances. So, Group Leaders need to risk assess the venues and activity, and provide this information for members to do their personal risk assessment.
There are two risk assessment forms, adapted from the Third Age Trust forms, on which (1) the Group Leader will provide a risk assessment of the venue and (2) the member will do their personal risk assessment. The latter will remain with the member, it does not have to be seen by the Group Leader (Third Age Trust advice). Group Leaders will risk assess each venue and copy the relevant parts of this assessment to the second form (personal risk assessment). Members will then be asked to fill in their own personal risk assessment form. and then fill in the usual Disclaimer Form (modified) with contact details and sign to confirm that they have done their personal assessment and are happy to participate. This should be given to the Group leader.
The Risk Assessment form and Disclaimer form for individuals can be located on our website
HEALTH & SAFETY page

GUIDANCE ON PUBLIC HEALTH ADVICE
Almost all coronavirus restrictions in Northern Ireland have eased now, and nothing is mandatory any longer at least at this time. Nevertheless, as a governing body we ask people to use common sense in relation to ongoing high levels of coronavirus infection in the community.
A few continuing considerations may be:
· It remains important to register the participants of the walk to deal with any potential questions about exposure to the virus that may arise later.
· Walkers should only participate when they are free symptoms from COVID-19, but this applies also to other infections such a common colds and influenzas.
· Avoid going to places that you anticipate may be crowded as the increased footfall in outdoor environments is likely to continue.
· Have an alternative parking area in mind in case the car park you have chosen is full when you arrive. Again, it is likely that the increased use of the outdoors will continue.
· You should consider to car share again in light of the parking problems as well as the increased costs of fuel.
· Do not park in a manner that obstructs residents, farmers, or the emergency services.
