Meeting report April 11th 2023
"Science and Art"
The presentation was about the meeting of the two in the procuction of films that feature animated effects.
To set the scene, we viewed a brief trailer "The Beauty of Interstellar".
Our longer presentation was a TED talk by Paul Franklin, the director of animation in films such as "Inception" and "Interstellar". He talked about the interaction of art and science in the production of the 2014 film "Interstellar".
ChatGPT
We returned to this topic in the light of societal concerns about the use of Large Language Models such as ChatGPT such as Italy's banning of chatbots based on the technology.

Vaping
We talked about the report that the NHS would prescribe vaping as a means of reducing smoking.
Sharing resources
At present, members often share science book and magazines. Should we extend this idea to video discs? It could include both fact and fiction. What do you think?
